First of all, thank God for protecting and guiding Kyung-in Women's University since its opening in 1992. Dear students, Respected founder Baek Chang-ki, Honorary President Kim Gil-ja, Chairman Oh In-tak, directors, and reliable professors and staff, proud alumni of Kyung-in, I am very honored to start the office of 10th president of Kyung-in Women's University.
More than 20 years ago, I became a professor here and now I am called the president responsible for leading Kyung-in Women's University. I am very grateful for the honor of being the first university professor in our university who turned president, and at the same time, I feel a great responsibility to develop our university into a leading university for female talents.
Last year, the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 completely changed our daily lives and university education, which led us to deeply experience the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the "already-to-be-seen future." In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, which is characterized by artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, and the cloud, our university will be able to specify education innovation tasks of future. Furthermore, with the sharp decline in the school-age population in 2021, we are facing the difficulty of recruiting new students.
At such a challenging time, I came to take on the responsibility of the president. However, I am convinced of one thing – that if we work together as one, we will be able to turn this "crisis" into an "opportunity" and move forward with a higher solid foundation.
During my term of office, I will focus on the following key tasks in line with the changing times and social needs of education for professionals.
First, I will review the current departments and reorganize them into future-oriented departments that can prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era which is featured by artificial intelligence, big data, and convergence. Therefore, we will be able to provide education that meets the expectations of students and parents who have trusted our university and will be able to operate the curriculum tailored to the needs of the local employment sites. We will also strengthen the digital educational environment to cope with the 4th Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 situation.
Second, I will try to secure the financial soundness of the university by promoting Corps for Industry/University Cooperation, Lifelong Education Center, and Office of Global Human Resource Development. I will make a master plan for "Smart & Green Campus", establish a department-linked school company using the new site of our university, and seek the way how the Lifelong Education Center will meet the needs of our community. At the same time, I will further strengthen exchange programs with foreign universities and attract more foreign students from abroad.
Third, I will establish an efficient administrative support system through slimming down of our organization, administrative efficiency, and simplification of task performances. For this goal, I am willing to listen to various opinions from our university members and try to make our university an organization which takes on administrative responsibility.
Fourth, I will try to build our mutual trust by giving principled directions to our goals, and create a win-win culture in our university through lively communication among university members. I will be clarifying our goals, giving accurate feedback on the results, and creating a culture of trust.
I will not forget that more important "top priority" task than the above-mentioned tasks is that we need to willingly and actively take on the role as a Christian university, which is our founding ideology, and we need to foster versatile female talents who are equippedwith not only professional skills but also good personality and refinements.
Publishing 30 years of Kyung-in Women’s University, and its photography book, which is one of the 30th anniversary projects is also task to be pursued during my tenure. I look forward to overcoming COVID 19 in 2022 and celebrating the 30th anniversary in a big way.
To our students, I am giving my promise and asking yours as well. We, including me, a new president, professors and all university staff will fully support you by providing qualified learning experiences and great programs for your growing. I expect you, students to make your all-out effort to design your own life and to be a top expert in your field.
In the Spotopia building in our campus, these words are engraved: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31).
Never forgetting that I’m imperfect, with the Lord’s guidance and Kyung-in family members’ support, I will humbly serve you as president.
‘I get energy when we become one.’ Everyone! Let's all be one! And let's make a strong move on!Thank you.
President of Kyung-in Women's University
